Vic Light delivers an eclectic selection of new music from all spectrum's of trance, starting from deep progressive and going all the way through to banging tech and epic trance.
I’ll admit, things have been a little quiet recently.
I’ve started back in the final year of my CGI degree, so unfortunately music has taken a bit of a back seat for a couple of months. It’s not an ideal situation but unfortunately I’ve not had a choice. For me to pass my degree with flying colors means I’ve got to spend insane amounts of time working, but the resulting qualification will be well worth it.
Due to November being my birthday month, I will be making an extra special effort to put out a birthday podcast. I don’t know how long it will be yet as I’m a bit out of touch with new music, but I’m listening to some as we speak.
I’ll also have a very exciting new booking to announce tomorrow too, so keep a look out with that.
First of all, I want to give all of you who voted for me in the DJ Mag Top 100 this year, I cannot thank you enough for putting one of your valuable votes my way.
I know I’m not going to place within that top 100 yet, after all I don’t play out several times a week, I don’t travel worldwide and I don’t produce my own music. Hell, with the number of DJ’s that DO play worldwide every week, I didn’t think I had a fighting chance of placing anywhere even slightly decent. If I came within the top 10,000 I’d have been happy, the fact that I placed 1816th is a testament to all my loyal supporters.
Now 1816th still seems quite high, but when you consider last year there were over 60,000 artists that were entered last year (I don’t know the official figure), my position bec0mes that much more substantial. One of my favorite production artists, Klauss Goulart, known worldwide with massive tune releases on Armada, Flashover, ColdHarbour Records and High Contrast, placed 6 positions below me at 1822nd.
In my opinion he should have placed far higher than that as most of his tunes are absolute gold, but the fact I’m in a similar position makes me incredibly happy and means I’m doing something right for sure.
So again, for anyone who voted for me, thank you for your continued support, your kind words and your encouraging comments and hopefully I will continue to keep you happy and entertained. For those who didn’t vote for me, all I can say is listen to my music, come and see me play live and hopefully I can make a big enough impact that you’ll consider voting for me next year!
Our good friends over at the I Love Trance Music Blog have made an interesting post regarding supporting new talent in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll, and I’m honored to be included in their top 5 this year.
In all seriousness, breaking into the trance scene is hard, especially with the number of nights in the UK dwindling rapidly. To get any sort of exposure and recognition as a DJ is a massive struggle.
I remember a conversation I had with a promoter of an extremely big Trance night in UK who absolutely loved my music and regularly plays it in his car whilst traveling to work and between gigs, but he won’t book me on the grounds that I live about 200 miles away from the venue, so although I’ve made a name for myself in the South and Midlands and have played for him before, he couldn’t guarantee my name was going to boost ticket sales.
I’ve worked hard to get where I am now and it’s taken the best part of 11 years, on and off, to do so, but do I have to crank out mega hits on a weekly basis to get recognised?
At the end of the day, I do what I do because I love the music and I know the fans I do have are dedicated and they genuinely look forward to my next mix or seeing me play. I may or may not ever make the Top 100, but the fact that people have even considered me in their top 5, is enough to keep me pushing forwards and putting all my passion into everything I do.
So for all those who regularly support me, a huge, huge thank you and for those who are only just discovering me, I hope I bring as much happiness to you, as I do to my longstanding listeners.
Thanks for all the great feedback you all given me on it, I’m glad that everyone enjoyed it!
I’m currently preparing this months episode so keep a look out for that when it’s available.

Apologies for not updating this sooner, things have been a bit crazy recently and there’s a lot of news to tell!
First of all, thank you to anyone who came to see my set at Slinky. Even though it was an early set, I had a great turnout and it was a great night all round.
I’ve also been booked to play at Slinky’s 14th Birthday on April the 30th at the o2 Academy in Bournemouth. It’s a classics night and the Line up consists of DJ Lange, Signum, Tall Paul, Lee Haslam and Dav Gomrass with the Slinky NuBreed DJ’s taking up the 2nd room again. You can purchase tickets from just £12 at slinkytickets.com/room2/
Secondly I’m proud to announce that I’ve been added to the Powdergrooves DJ Roster. Powdergrooves is a brand that will be hosting Trance and Progressive nights at various Ski Resorts across Austria in 2012 so check out their website and keep a look out for more news regarding that!
I’ll also be playing for the Bring the Noise Tour at The Tidy Carnival with Xstatic, Deprivation & The HardHouse Allstars at Subway City in Birmingham on the 29th of May. This one has a massive line up, including the DJ’s such as The Tidy Boys, Lisa Pin Up, BK, Karim, JP & Jukesy, Steve Thomas b2b Ian M, Andy Farley and many more. Check the website for more details and where you can also grab tickets.
Some of you may have also noticed that my Lesson in Trance Podcast has dropped off the face of the planet. Due to reasons beyond my control, I’ve not been able to do this for a while but rest assured It’ll be back again very soon with some exciting guest mixes.
It’s been a while since I’ve done an update, mainly due to be horrendously busy so I’m sorry for any lack of both music and information. I’ve started a new full time job for my University placement year and my amount of spare time has been severely cut.
My intended year mix went horribly wrong due to trying to be over ambitious, further attempts to restructure the mix have also gone horribly wrong. It’s getting a bit late to come up with a year mix now too so thinking of turning Feb’s podcast into a mixture of all sorts of stuff.
It’s not all bad though, I have finished a mix ready for Neil Hunter’s “This is Trance Podcast – Episode 50” show. This will be 24 hours of EDM starting on the 19th February and ending on the 20th. You’ll be able to catch my set @ 4pm-5pm GMT. I also have a promo mix coming up for my upcoming set @ Slinky on the 26th February at Bournemouth’s o2 Academy. This is going to be a massive event with Sander van Doorn, Bryan Kearney and Genix headlining. Be sure to get your tickets from this link and support Slinky’s NuBreed DJ’s (Thanks in advance!) I also have a guest mix for the Class A Sessions Weekender in the works. This is due to be aired on Saturday 26th Feb @ 7pm GMT, a couple of hours before my Slinky gig. Check out the website for more details and a full DJ time table.
On the upside, the mashup that was created by me and @freedominfinite, Forbidden Radiator, has had some great airplay, being heavily supported by DJ Ange and a few others, as well as being played at some major events so we’ve been extremely pleased with it.
We are currently working on a remix of an old Lee Haslam track from 2006 called “The Future”. Unfortunately we missed the cut off date for the Slinky Digital remix competition, but we still intend on finishing it for our own use.
This weekend you’ll be able to catch me playing at the massive Midlands Hard House and Trance night, Xstatic who are putting on a special event showcasing London Hard NRG DJ, Karim in a 9 hour back to back marathon. The event will be at Subway City and tickets can be obtained from The TicketSellers.co.uk or by getting hold of me directly.
That’s it for now, keep an eye out on my website for the latest news and mixes
Things have been a little slow this month, but for good reason.
First of all I’ve had to move due to my (ex)housemate leaving to start a new job in London and it’s also been my 30th Birthday (wooooh, go me!) which I spent enjoying Armin Only with 15,000 people in Utrecht, Holland so sorry about a lack of Podcast this month.
I have made a new mix to celebrate my birthday, however I’m only giving this out on CD. If you would like a copy, come see me at one of my gigs and grab one. If you live outside of the UK then drop me an email and I’ll happily post you one. My email address is in the Contact section of this website.
This does mean that next month’s podcast will be my 2010 year mix so expect another bumper episode as there has been many AMAZING tunes this year and I’m not looking forward to having to choose between them all. People are still enjoying my 2008 Year Mix and my 5 hour-long, 2009 Summer Mix so 2010′s mix should be something special.
Gig news…
It’s only a week away from the Everybody Be Cool – Christmas Party @ Dusk till Dawn in Bournemouth, UK. With myself, Slinky Resident Dav Gomrass, Ex Slinky resident Gaz White, Russell Sanger, Gary Squire, Andy Legg & Rich Pullen! Free before Midnight, £5 after! Check the Facebook event page for more info and some free mixes from the DJ’s due to play – http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/event.php?eid=175786642437510
Also some massive news is that I’ve been booked to play at the massive International Superbrand, Slinky at the Slinky Boxing Day Pay Back Party at the o2 Academy in Bournemouth. This is a MASSIVE booking for me as Slinky has been my 2nd home for the last 10 years and to finally get a chance to DJ there is a dream come true. It tops off what has been another amazing year and I can’t wait to see what comes in 2011.

A Lesson in Trance 008 has been a long time coming, this is due to having some unfortunately timed personal commitments.
However Episode 008 will mark the official launch of this new website and to celebrate, this episode will be around 3+ hours long and 40 tunes in length. I don’t know exactly how long as I’ve not mixed it yet, but it will cover the best new tunes of the last 3 months.
Not only this but you can now subscribe to my show on iTunes so you’ll never miss another show again!
The mix will be coming in the next few days so stay tuned for that and the link to subscribe in iTunes is as follows.
