Today is the day that I finally release A Lesson in Trance Podcast – Episode 015.

ALiT015 has been around in one form or another for several months now, however it has gone through several configurations before arriving in the form it is now. You may notice that it’s also a little shorter than some of my other episodes, coming in at just over 2 hours. There are reasons for this.

It originally started as a 35 track gargantuan. As regular listeners of the podcast know, I love creating long mixes. You can put so much creativity into longer mixes and really take the listener (and I’m sorry for the horrible cliché) on an epic journey through trance, from warm and fuzzy progressive beginnings, to face melting, energy filled madness at the end (see my 5 hour 20 minute mix, V-i-C’s Sounds of the Summer 2009 for a good example of this,) but the amount of time required to choose 30+ tracks and arrange them in an order to create the perfect flow can be astronomical, not to mention actually mixing the thing which is another matter entirely.

I’m also extremely prone to new release Mondays where I frequently look for what new tracks are out that week. I’ve become quite picky in my old age, only grabbing up tunes that really stand out to me, so when I find one that ticks all of my boxes, it absolutely has to go into the mix.

This usually causes all sorts of issues with the tracklist and usually ends up with me jiggling it about a bit. By the time I’m happy with the way it’s organised, it’s Monday again. Being the perfectionist that I am, this process tends to go on for a while. Because of this, over the last few months I have had to learn to be a lot more brutal with cutting tracks.

Before, if I found a track that I like, I would try and shoehorn it in somewhere which sometimes meant having to find another track to include so that the flow of the mix is restored. Now, if I don’t think a track fits anywhere sensible, I will drop it, regardless of how good it is.

Notable cuts from ALiT015 include Jordan Suckley – Do or Die. Probably one of my favourite Jordan Suckley tracks for ages, however it just didn’t fit anywhere that I was happy with. Another great track that I left out was Max Graham – Diamonds (Wezz Devall Remix), however again, it just didn’t fit in with what was already there. Also I’ve decided there has to be a cut off point now where I stop and just get on with it, no matter what new tracks have been released. There were a couple of new releases that I’d love to have put in, but I have to draw the line somewhere. Due to this aggressive attitude I have recently taken to track selection, it means the mixes have been a bit shorter, but at the same time, are even tighter than ever.

I hope that you enjoy this mix as much as myself and those who were lucky enough to get an early listen of it. I have dedicated a great deal of time, thought and effort into picking only the very best tracks and I genuinely think that ALiT015 is one the best podcast mixes that I’ve ever created. Almost every tune on the mix has been chosen and ordered very specifically and a large majority of the tracks hold a very personal connection, as this year is the year my partner finally found her love for Trance.

Finally, I thank all those who have in the past and who still support me, even when times were hard and my mixes became infrequent.

But now I’m back, and more determined than ever.

Let the good times roll again.

I think I fixed it!

August 21, 2013 News Comments

So, you may have noticed that updates around here have become few and far between for quite a while now.

This isn’t entirely my fault, although I am to blame for not getting on top of the problem sooner. Over the last year or so my hosting account has become steadily worse. It got to the point where I was unable to either update WordPress, nor was I able to upload or delete any files on the server. Due to my lack of experience in configuring WordPress and my total lack of knowledge regarding Linux, instead of trying to fix it, I did the next best thing. Leave it and hope it fixes itself.

It didn’t.

Well on this occasion, the number 13 lives up to its reputation. This episode has been inundated with problems. Completed shortly before Christmas 2011, it has taken until now to get it up online. However this is not the place to vent my frustration as I’m happy it’s finally available, albeit a little late.

Episode 13 contains the best trance from October, November and December with some real corkers coming in from Store N Forward, Klauss Goulart, Wezz Devall and Sean Tyas, however tune of the month goes to Sophie Sugar with the amazingly uplifting Skyline. Incidentally, Sophie Sugar also scoops my tune of the year award through her collaboration with Tom Colontonio, titled “Arlanda”. I look forward to hearing what she comes up with this year.

If you’ve enjoyed this podcast and you’d like to see me play live, I will next be appearing at Ctrl @ The Old Firestation, Bournemouth on Thursday the 16th of February.

I will also be playing at PaSSion’s 17th Birthday at The Emporium in Coalville on the 3rd March alongside Ferry Corsten, Aly & Fila, Lange, Daniel Kandi, Mike Koglin, Genix, Gavyn Mytchel, Dave Seaman, John 00 Flemming and many more. Tickets for this event are a very respectable £20. Feel free to get in touch with me if you require any! More information about this event can be found on their facebook event page.

November/December 2011 Update

November 6, 2011 News Comments

I’ll admit, things have been a little quiet recently.

I’ve started back in the final year of my CGI degree, so unfortunately music has taken a bit of a back seat for a couple of months. It’s not an ideal situation but unfortunately I’ve not had a choice. For me to pass my degree with flying colors means I’ve got to spend insane amounts of time working, but the resulting qualification will be well worth it.

Due to November being my birthday month, I will be making an extra special effort to put out a birthday podcast. I don’t know how long it will be yet as I’m a bit out of touch with new music, but I’m listening to some as we speak.

I’ll also have a very exciting new booking to announce tomorrow too, so keep a look out with that.

The best things come to those who wait ;)

DJ Mag Top 100 2011 results

November 6, 2011 News Comments

First of all, I want to give all of you who voted for me in the DJ Mag Top 100 this year, I cannot thank you enough for putting one of your valuable votes my way.

I know I’m not going to place within that top 100 yet, after all I don’t play out several times a week, I don’t travel worldwide and I don’t produce my own music. Hell, with the number of DJ’s that DO play worldwide every week, I didn’t think I had a fighting chance of placing anywhere even slightly decent.  If I came within the top 10,000 I’d have been happy, the fact that I placed 1816th is a testament to all my loyal supporters.

Now 1816th still seems quite high, but when you consider last year there were over 60,000 artists that were entered last year (I don’t know the official figure), my position bec0mes that much more substantial. One of my favorite production artists, Klauss Goulart, known worldwide with massive tune releases on Armada, Flashover, ColdHarbour Records and High Contrast, placed 6 positions below me at 1822nd.

In my opinion he should have placed far higher than that as most of his tunes are absolute gold, but the fact I’m in a similar position makes me incredibly happy and means I’m doing something right for sure.

So again, for anyone who voted for me, thank you for your continued support, your kind words and your encouraging comments and hopefully I will continue to keep you happy and entertained. For those who didn’t vote for me, all I can say is listen to my music, come and see me play live and hopefully I can make a big enough impact that you’ll consider voting for me next year!

Vic.
