Well on this occasion, the number 13 lives up to its reputation. This episode has been inundated with problems. Completed shortly before Christmas 2011, it has taken until now to get it up online. However this is not the place to vent my frustration as I’m happy it’s finally available, albeit a little late.

Episode 13 contains the best trance from October, November and December with some real corkers coming in from Store N Forward, Klauss Goulart, Wezz Devall and Sean Tyas, however tune of the month goes to Sophie Sugar with the amazingly uplifting Skyline. Incidentally, Sophie Sugar also scoops my tune of the year award through her collaboration with Tom Colontonio, titled “Arlanda”. I look forward to hearing what she comes up with this year.

If you’ve enjoyed this podcast and you’d like to see me play live, I will next be appearing at Ctrl @ The Old Firestation, Bournemouth on Thursday the 16th of February.

I will also be playing at PaSSion’s 17th Birthday at The Emporium in Coalville on the 3rd March alongside Ferry Corsten, Aly & Fila, Lange, Daniel Kandi, Mike Koglin, Genix, Gavyn Mytchel, Dave Seaman, John 00 Flemming and many more. Tickets for this event are a very respectable £20. Feel free to get in touch with me if you require any! More information about this event can be found on their facebook event page.

November/December 2011 Update

November 6, 2011 News Comments

I’ll admit, things have been a little quiet recently.

I’ve started back in the final year of my CGI degree, so unfortunately music has taken a bit of a back seat for a couple of months. It’s not an ideal situation but unfortunately I’ve not had a choice. For me to pass my degree with flying colors means I’ve got to spend insane amounts of time working, but the resulting qualification will be well worth it.

Due to November being my birthday month, I will be making an extra special effort to put out a birthday podcast. I don’t know how long it will be yet as I’m a bit out of touch with new music, but I’m listening to some as we speak.

I’ll also have a very exciting new booking to announce tomorrow too, so keep a look out with that.

The best things come to those who wait ;)

DJ Mag Top 100 2011 results

November 6, 2011 News Comments

First of all, I want to give all of you who voted for me in the DJ Mag Top 100 this year, I cannot thank you enough for putting one of your valuable votes my way.

I know I’m not going to place within that top 100 yet, after all I don’t play out several times a week, I don’t travel worldwide and I don’t produce my own music. Hell, with the number of DJ’s that DO play worldwide every week, I didn’t think I had a fighting chance of placing anywhere even slightly decent.  If I came within the top 10,000 I’d have been happy, the fact that I placed 1816th is a testament to all my loyal supporters.

Now 1816th still seems quite high, but when you consider last year there were over 60,000 artists that were entered last year (I don’t know the official figure), my position bec0mes that much more substantial. One of my favorite production artists, Klauss Goulart, known worldwide with massive tune releases on Armada, Flashover, ColdHarbour Records and High Contrast, placed 6 positions below me at 1822nd.

In my opinion he should have placed far higher than that as most of his tunes are absolute gold, but the fact I’m in a similar position makes me incredibly happy and means I’m doing something right for sure.

So again, for anyone who voted for me, thank you for your continued support, your kind words and your encouraging comments and hopefully I will continue to keep you happy and entertained. For those who didn’t vote for me, all I can say is listen to my music, come and see me play live and hopefully I can make a big enough impact that you’ll consider voting for me next year!

Vic.

Luke Terry’s Guest Mix

Tracklist not provided

It’s that time of the month again and ALiT012 is almost upon us. In a change to the A Lesson in Trance format, from this month onwards I’ll be including a guest mix as well as a mix from myself.

This month, I will be including my Live set from the Slinky tour in Southampton, Celebrating 100 episodes of the Slinky Sessions radio show, along with a cracking guest mix from Luke Terry.

Expect all this before Sunday, as I’m off on a much needed holiday for a week!

Our good friends over at the I Love Trance Music Blog have made an interesting post regarding supporting new talent in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll, and I’m honored to be included in their top 5 this year.

The post was even mentioned by DJ Mag themselves so if there’s anyone reading this post who was redirected from either of these two sources, thanks for checking me out ;) .

In all seriousness, breaking into the trance scene is hard, especially with the number of nights in the UK dwindling rapidly. To get any sort of exposure and recognition as a DJ is a massive struggle.

I remember a conversation I had with a promoter of an extremely big Trance night in UK who absolutely loved my music and regularly plays it in his car whilst traveling to work and between gigs, but he won’t book me on the grounds that I live about 200 miles away from the venue, so although I’ve made a name for myself in the South and Midlands and have played for him before, he couldn’t guarantee my name was going to boost ticket sales.

I’ve worked hard to get where I am now and it’s taken the best part of 11 years, on and off, to do so, but do I have to crank out mega hits on a weekly basis to get recognised?

At the end of the day, I do what I do because I love the music and I know the fans I do have are dedicated and they genuinely look forward to my next mix or seeing me play. I may or may not ever make the Top 100, but the fact that people have even considered me in their top 5, is enough to keep me pushing forwards and putting all my passion into everything I do.

So for all those who regularly support me, a huge, huge thank you and for those who are only just discovering me, I hope I bring as much happiness to you, as I do to my longstanding listeners.

Episode 011 of the A Lesson in Trance Podcast is now available!

I’m a little bit late with this, due to my PC imploding on me, but now it’s fixed and I’m rocking 12gb of memory which should keep me going for a bit!

So here it is, Episode 011. Lots of great tracks this month such as Orjan Nilsen – Between The Rays, Protoculture Feat. Shannon Hurley – Sun Gone Down (Alex M.O.R.P.H. & Chris Ortega Remix), Sebastian Brandt – Ashes, Marcus Schossow – Acid, Festival, Champagne & Bitches, Tom Colontonio – Never Give Up, Sean Tyas – By The Way and a few cheeky bootlegs from First State, but this months Tune of the Month once again goes to the power house that is Ummet Ozcan with his new tune, Reboot. I hope you’ll agree that this is an absolutely killer track and I expect I’ll be playing it for a while yet!

Also it’s that time of the year where the DJ Mag Top 100 has rolled around again, so if you’ve enjoyed any of my podcasts or live sets over the last 12 months, please consider including a vote for “Vic Light” and support your up and coming DJ’s. Without fresh talent, the majority of Trance nights across the globe wouldn’t be able to run because promoters can’t afford to throw tens of thousands of (insert local currency here) for an all star line up every month. Your vote gives us more exposure and more chance of playing in a venue near you! Head over to http://www.djmag.com/top100 and cast your votes, if you haven’t done so already :)
